Hello, I’m Matt

I am a creative problem solver with a passion for helping people through user centered design.

My unique background and motivation has helped me to continue learning and pushing my design work to new and exciting levels. I enjoy art, sports, traveling, and opportunities to expand my knowledge.

Prior to becoming a user experience designer, I had many roles that shaped who I am today. Most recently, I spent six years working as a graphic design specialist. Before that, I worked eight years in non-profit group homes counseling children who have a wide range of disabilities and mental health diagnoses. I am grateful for my prior experiences because they have had a large impact on who I am, how I work, and interact with others.

Many of the skills I obtained in the past have been put to use in my work as a UX Designer. Interpersonal effectiveness and empathy are essential tools that I gained during my time working in group homes. These tools helped me previously to build connections with clients, uncover the truth in situations, and discover how to best help a client in a moment of need. As a designer, I get to use these skills in new and exciting ways. Interpersonal effectiveness has helped when conducting user interviews and usability testing to keep the user engaged and talking. It also becomes valuable when communicating with team members and stakeholders.

The empathy gained from my past clients has now transitioned into an empathy for the users of each product I design. It allows me to stay user focused throughout the design process. My empathy also gives me an extra drive to find the core problem the users are facing and create products that help solve their problem in the most effective way.

In addition, the creativity and attention to detail that I gained during my work in graphic design and art has given me the ability to sketch ideas, give and receive constructive critiques, create original clean designs, and produce pixel perfect products.

My goal is to utilize my experience by creating attractive and effective products that help to solve user problems. I am proud to be a designer and I am excited to continue my journey in this inspiring and ever changing field. I feel strongly that my life experience, the skills that I have obtained along the way, and my willingness to learn, grow, and adapt will help to guide my decisions and career.

When I’m not working, you can find me playing outside with my two kids, watching sports, or visiting with family and friends.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to learn a bit about me. I hope to connect with you soon.
